John’s morning service saw us beginning a new series in the book of Amos. Following on from last weeks opening study into the book, John continues with the declaration of the prophet Amos to the tribe of Israel. Here, Amos declares the lord’s dealings with the tribe of Israel, and the fact that despite Gods numerous reminders of his existance and care, they refused to return back to a worship of God and his wonderful grace, mercy and provision, so we conclude with verse 12, ‘prepare to meet your God’. This verse usually given in a negative light, John investigates the reason of this verse and its meaning, hinting that it was an encouragement that God bridges the gap that we seek to establish and maintain.

John’s evening service returned to our series in the book of Matthew following the Easter break. Continuing on through chapter 24, the sermon investigated about the parable of the ten virgins. This verse mentions a waiting and preparation of the arrival of the bridegroom and the attributes and characteristics of the ten virgins. The parable speaks of ten virgins who were unaware of the arrival time of the bridegroom, and five of them were ‘unprepared’ of the potential issues that would arise and because of that, the bridegroom arrives unexpected. The foolish virgins didn’t have enough oil to greet and welcome the bridegroom in, and miss out on the wedding party. This parable serves as a reminder and warning that our lives should always be in preparation of the lords return, and to ignore this instruction would be unwise.

John’s morning service saw us beginning a new series in the book of Amos. Following on from last weeks opening study into the book, John continues with the declaration of the prophet Amos to the tribe of Israel. This whole chapter speaks about how God would show his love for the tribe, and that although they would be provided for, this chapter also mentions how God would seek to change them from the inside out, making them to be a people who were fit to be in God’s presence. John linked these verses to our thoughts on what God’s love really means, and the paths he leads us down if we are his, and that an easy and enjoyable life isn’t the primary role for God, and that our intention to sin and our holiness was the only thing that could be changed by God, as it wasn’t something we could change ourselves. The three points given in the sermon were:

(Verses 3-10) Mis-valued God’s Fellowship
(Verses 1-2) Mis-took God’s Dealings

John’s evening service returned to our series in the book of Matthew following the Easter break. We pick up the study in Chapter 24, looking at the interesting topic of the end times before Jesus returns. Continuing on through chapter 24, the sermon investigated about the timing of the end of the times, and what would happen at that time. The end of the chapter describes that this would happen on an occasion that we least expect, so rather than worry about when, John mentions that we should be more concerned about being ‘ready’, hinting that we should accept the opportunity of accepting the free offer of salvation in these days of grace before they are withdrawn and the ‘end of the age’. John’s evening service returned to our series in the book of Matthew following the Easter break. We pick up the study in Chapter 24, looking at the interesting topic of the end times before Jesus returns. Continuing on through chapter 24, the sermon investigated signs of the end of the times, and whether we were seeking to trend the signs that have been given, and that the end was to be predicted with any sort of accuracy. But the verses contained in this chapter speak about this, ‘If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.’ We should then be more concentrated as to the reproductions of what will happen when the end of the age comes, rather than being satisfied in knowing when. The following points apply to the sermon:

John’s morning service saw us beginning a new series in the book of Amos. In this first week we studied chapter 1, starting off by thinking about how we would describe our own relationship with God. In this chapter we learn of Amos, a simple shepherd, who is chosen by God to deliver an important message. We concentrated on the 6 nations surrounding Jerusalem who were warned in this passage. It reveals the clear need we all have to repent and turn from our sinful ways. Thankfully, we have a patient God, who has sounded His roar in warning (v2), but He has yet to pounce – giving us time to respond out of His grace and mercy. We were challenged to be wary of taking an overly pessimistic view in which we only look forward to the end to come with disregard for the present. Similarly we must take care not to be overly optimistic, in expecting every single person to be converted before Christ comes. We must avoid these two extremes, instead remembering the Lord’s prayer to help us; “Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done” and similarly “Deliver us from the evil one”. We continued through the chapter, examining the events predicted by Jesus and seeing the urgency suggested in v.16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains” because of the “great distress” that is to come. Yet whilst all these signs come to pass, we still live in days of grace and have time to turn to God, so the question is – will we be on the welcoming committee for Christ when He comes again?

This section of Luke covers where Jesus, after being tempted by the devil in the wilderness by 40 days and nights, is attending the synagogue and affirms his identity to all the teachers of the law and attendees. With his popularity growing, this was the time where takes up his fathers will and begins to preach the gospel, spreading the good news and the reason why he has been sent into the world. Bernard sought to remind us of our attitude to serving God, what our mind s and hearts should point to, and the reason why we witness to others, remembering that we should seek to honour God and not men with our attitudes and actions.

Bernard’s evening service opened the book of Acts, chapter six and the opening fifteen verses. This deals with the part where the pentecostal church is growing rapidly and the needs and demands on the officers of the early church were changing rapidly. The reading deals with the needs of widows in the early church and how the apostles dealt with the situation, not by ignoring the need or diverting it to other less important people but appointing more people into the ministry by setting apart certain men who were gifted and blessed by the holy spirit and were able to carry out the tasks appointed without supervision. Bernad also focused on the attitude of the apostles and the men appointed, and the reason why they did what they did.

John’s evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and verse 33 into the 24th chapter. Concentrating on the proclamation lf Jesus to the crowds and to the former events that transpired in old testament times, these verses cover where Jesus specifically mentions the prophets who were sent by God, their message and purpose and what came of their lives. Jesus particularly mentions that although they brought good news, the sin of the people sought to extinguish their lives and turn their backs on the invtation, and that the final messenger Jesus has now come and people still refuse the invitation. John had three points to his sermon, and they were:

The morning service continued in the book of Acts, chapter 2 and verses 29 to 47. Concentrating on verses 46 and 47, we observed some of the key characteristics of the Christians in the early church. As an early church, they’re dedication was not short lived and without grumbling, we read in these verses that they did so with ‘glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people’. This led on to a challenge whether we are sincere and glad in our walk as a Christian and with the fellowships that we are a part of. John summarized these themes into three main points:

The evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and verses 34 to 46. Looking at verses 41-45 where Jesus, after hard questions posed by the Pharisees, Sadducees and an expert in the law, asks them all what seemingly would be a very easy question. He asks, ‘who’s son is the Christ!?’ With so many religious leaders present, the answer would have been easy to give, but then Jesus refers to David, and what David said in Psalm 110, ‘The Lord said to my Lord’ if the Christ is only the son of David and not the Eternal son of the Father. John referred the question, who’s son is the Christ to the congregation? a probing question, what do we think of Jesus and who do we see him as?, whether we see him as Saviour or just another character of no significance. John had three points to his sermon, and they were:

The morning service gave a detailed consideration of the 46th psalm. Although it maybe a short Psalm compared to others, the opening verses contains enough theology and insight into what the Christian feels and his thoughts regarding the present circumstances and future events, particularly ones that are promised within the Bible. We are told in Psalm 46 that there are troubles, and difficulties which we cannot even begin to explain or understand, but that we should have faith that God is in it all, and that he will accomplish his will for himself and also keep us safe within his arms, continuing on to that heavenly goal.

The 17th of February’s services were led by the Rev. Alan Levy of Pastor Training International.

The evening service moved to the 130th Psalm. Again, another short Psalm but also packed full of truth and insight into a wonderful Biblical subject of judgement and forgiveness. The Psalmist writes ‘If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?’ This refers to the just and omnipotent attributes that God sees all things, both revealed and hidden, and that all sins are not overlooked but recorded, as they are dis-obidence and failure in his eyes. But with this in mind, how can we expect to live up to his expectations displayed in the example of his son!? But the Psalm continues on with the verse, ‘But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.’ A wonderful encouragement that because of his son, the forgiveness obtained on the cross means that there is a way back to him, and we can rejoice in that work that he can already accomplished.

The 3rd of February’s services were led by our pastor, Rev. John Williams.

The morning service continued in the book of Acts, chapter 2 and verses 29 to 47. Concentrating on verses 46 and 47, we saw some of the key characteristics of the Christians in the early church. As an early church, they’re dedication was not short lived and with grumbling, we read in these verses that they did so with ‘glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people’. This led on to a challenge whether we are sincere and glad in our walk as a christian and with the fellowships that we are a part of. John summarized these themes into three main points:

Sincerity
Fervency
Favour

The 3rd of February’s services were led by our pastor, Rev. John Williams.

The evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and verses 34 to 46. Looking at verses 41-45 where Jesus, after hard questions posed by the Pharisees, Saducees and an expert in the law, asks them all what seemingly would be a very easy question. He asks, ‘whos son is the Christ!?’ With so many religious leaders present, the answer would have been easy to give, but then Jesus refers to David, and what David said in Psalm 110, ‘The Lord said to my Lord’ if the Christ is only the son of David and not the eternal son of the father. John referenced the question, who’s son is the Christ to the congregation with a probing question, what do we think of Jesus and who he see him as, whether we see him as saviour or just another character of no significance.

The morning service continued in the book of Acts, chapter 2 and verses 29 to 47. Concentrating on verses 43 through to 45, we saw some of the key characteristics of the Christians in the early church. We saw their anticipation, having been left in awe at the apostles signs, followed by their unity in the Gospel and concluding with their new found kindness to one another. John summarized these themes into three main points:

Generosity (v.45)

The 27th of January’s services were led by our pastor, Rev. John Williams.

The evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and the opening 22 verses. Looking at verses 34-40 where the Pharisees launch yet another final attack when Jesus answers the Sadducees with a question about ‘the greatest commandment’. But instead of giving a challenging answer, Jesus does answer the Pharisees with the greatest commandment, but instead of stating that each commandment had its own unique importance, the response indicated that our desire to seek to reach the other commandments will stem from our love for God. Because of our lack of strength and determination to be holy, it is a love for God that will fuel our obedience to the law and result in love for others. John had two points to his sermon, and these were:

The verse, although very brief, mentions 4 actions but John covers the final 3 actions, ‘Fellowship’, ‘Breading Of Bread’ and ‘Prayer’. John went on to explain why this was so beneficial not only those in Acts, but for us today. John had 3 points to his sermon, and they were:

The evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and the opening 22 verses. Looking at verses 23-33 where the Sadducees try to trap Jesus about a scenario about heaven and eternity. In reference to an old testament verse from Moses, where a woman who is widowed without children shall be taken on by his brother and ‘raise up offspring for him’, and with the scenario extended to further six brothers, the Sadducees try and trap Jesus about who would be her husband in heaven. Jesus reminds the seemly knowledgable Sadducees about the verse they referred to, whats its true meaning was and how that even Moses refers to everlasting life in the very first few books of the bible. John had three points to his sermon to explain the whole parable, and these were:

Ignorance Of The Scriptures
Immortality Of The Soul

With such a difficult question to answer without offending either the crowd or outwardly carrying our heresy, Jesus goes on to use the situation as an example that everything we have, both our possessions and our souls should be given back to their rightful owners. Here, the passage covers where the disciples addressed the crowd and receive the promised Holy Spirit, and because of this, the first few hundred converts were added to the church and the early church was born. These passages lists what happened, and how the newly converted people devoted themselves to what they have witnessed, serving and devoting themselves to prayer. The evening service continued with the long series through the Gospel of Matthew, picking up at Chapter 22 and the opening 22 verses. This section mentions Jesus revealing another parable, the parable of the wedding banquet. A long and detailed parable, it mentions an invitation to a great feast and there is reference to those who refuse the personal invitation, and despite the hosts persistence, they refuse. So the host orders his workers to go out and find whoever will come, and amongst the crowd the host spots a man who is not wearing wedding clothes. The sermon goes on to highlight the gospel call to each and every one of us, and how we should respond. John had three points to his sermon to explain the whole parable, and these were:

For starters, thanks for taking a flyer and checking us out!!!

If you are here then I’m sure you’ll want to know more about us, right!?

So who are we?

We are a Youth group run and based at Bethel Evangelical Church, Gorseinon. Run by various ages for various ages. We exist to welcome you into our group, mix with other youth that you might not have met before, have some fun, learn about Jesus, why he came to this earth and we died on a cross and what it means to know him.

So what do you do in this youth club?

We run various activities that change each week. From table games to popular retro board games, team games to icebreakers (games to get to know each other), we sing modern worship hymns that you might know from popular bands or artists, do some craft. Each week will feature a talk from one of our youth team and occasionally a visitor will come and treat us to something we’ve never heard before.
One thing is for sure each week will be different.

What don’t we do!?

We encourage to get to know each other, so this isn’t a youth group where you can just turn up, and just come to mess about. Other youth groups might exist for a place for you and your friends to go to, but ‘Youth At Bethel’ is run by people, for people. If you wanna do something different, and have some genuine fun, you wont go far wrong.

What else do I need to know!?

We don’t just operate a youth group in the church, occasionally we will have trips to other churches and maybe some treats throughout the year which include bowling and other activities like camps. But this isn’t just something we do as a matter of course, these will be free events but you’ll need to attend often, get to know us, let us get to know you. And then you’ll find out that Youth At Bethel just isn’t another youth group.

How can I find out more!? What if I have more questions!?

We’re not mind readers, and as much as I would like to sit here and try to answer every question you MIGHT have, it would be alot easier to get in touch.

The morning service continued with our reading from Luke, and into chapter 2 where Mary and Joseph present Jesus as a baby in the temple for circumcision to obey the Jewish covenant and this is where they meet Simeon, a man who was patiently awating the coming of the Saviour that was promised, and with a stirring of the Holy spirit, he goes into the temple courts and greets Mary and Joseph, takes the baby and is finally satisfied that prophesy had been fulfilled. John had 4 points to summarise this part of God’s word, and they were:

The 30th of December’s evening service was led by the Rev. Mike Leaves of Bethany, West Cross due to an organised pulpit exchange.

This evening service, led by Mike Leaves, goes on to deliver a message with a consideration of the year that has just past. The whole chapter covers how Gods people, who were sent to rebuild the temple, were delaying their work and instead of pressing on, were finding other pressing matters to attend to, mainly their own priorities. But Haggai, a prophet was given a word from the Lord concerning the people’s actions, and that their work was already holding up the results that were expected of them, and that God was reminding them that because they had turned their backs on their call to the rebuilding of the temple, God was drawing them back to the need of prayer, and to tend to God’s call in our lives first, and then to our own needs, secondly.

This was our special family Christmas morning service, and with a lighter message, John speaks on 2 Corinthians, speaks of a transference of riches through Christ. And although this verse may be good news to us, John goes to refer to the birth of Christ, and why his birth and death was to bridge the gap between us and God, but while this message would be good news to all, it was still a message to be acted upon, accepted and received with a glad heart to be of any use.

This service was our annual candlelit service, with many readings and hymns announced by various church volunteers with a final short message from John about ‘Gifts’, especially referring to the age old question asked at Christmas, ‘ What do you want for Christmas?’. John gave a brief sermon upon our ‘wants’ at Christmas when it came to gifts received from others, and cross referenced it to the baby given to us at Bethlehem, and the reason why a baby was given, and not something else.

As it was a family morning service, John had a visual aid in the form of a powerpoint to bring out 3 points through the acronym of the word ‘Gifts’. Referring to the reason why Jesus came as a baby, John mentioned that the forgiveness that Christ earned for us would be: God, Individual, Free, Total and Salvation.

John’s morning service, in preparation towards the Christmas advent, opened up the gospel of Luke to Chapter 1. Where we concentrated on verses 57 to 80 where a very heavily pregnant Elizabeth gives birth to John the baptist, and Zechariah, filled with the holy spirit, also gives a song and its this song that John concentrates on, particularly the latter half where he describes that his child will prepare the way for another child, and his song has distinct description as to what this child will be. John had three points to his sermon, and they were:

Here, Micah the prophet describes the coming of Christ and his clear attributes to his arrival and what we would expect when the promised messiah would come to rescue us from the situation of sin that we find ourselves in. Candlelight Service

This Service will be followed by Festive Refreshments served downstairs. An opportunity to meet together and share the joy of the season.

John’s morning service, in preparation towards the Christmas advent, opened up the gospel of Luke to Chapter 1. John mentioned that the bible speaks of a lot of ‘visits’ during Christ birth and this service concentrates on Mary’s visit to Elizabeth. But rather than looking at Mary, we concentrated on verses 39 to 45 where, a very heavily pregnant Elizabeth, greets Mary who is also expecting, and gives Mary some encouragement with the news and assurance as to what she is going to go through, and the reasons why. John had five points, and they were:

John’s evening service continued the study in the book of Luke, and Chapter 1, carrying on from the morning service where Mary visits Elizabeth but now reading Mary’s song from verse 46 to 55. This song is the only time where Mary is recorded to have composed a song, and the song captures not only her thoughts towards the situation she is facing but also of her knowledge of God’s care for her. John summarized his sermon into three points, and they were:

John’s morning service, in preparation towards the Christmas advent, opened up the gospel of John and to chapter 6. Reading from verses 25 to 59, after feeding of the five thousand, Jesus describes himself as ‘the living bread’ giving an explanation as to the miracle of the feeding. The jews that heard this reference to ‘living bread’ questions Jesus authority on proclaiming this statement after their query about Jesus parents as Mary and Joseph. But Jesus uses the refernece that although Moses helped the provision of Manna back in Exodus, this was provided by God and in likemind, the saviour has also been provided by the Father for our salvation John had three points, and they were:

Gift Of Living Bread
Gift Of Eternal Life

John’s evening service continued the study in the book of Matthew, moving onto Chapter 20 and concentrating on verses 29 to 34. In this passage, we see Jesus leaving Jericho for Jerusalem with a large crowd following him. With the crowd thinking he was on his way to overturn the Roman government, Jesus meets two blind men shouting “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”, after the corwd gives them hassle for their shouts, Jesus agrees to see them and to honour any request they have. The passage mentions Jesus compassion, despite that he knew what Jerusalem held for him and granted them their sight, and they went on and followed him onto Jerusalem. John summarised his sermon into 4 points, and they were:

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening twenty three verses. But moving on through the chapter on verses 21 to 23. Continuing on from verse 20, Paul instructs the church at Philippi, after their kind and continued support, to look to other Christians in the same light as they have given him, welcoming them and not to hold grudges, differences and quarrels amongst them. Paul recognised that a spirit of unity and fellowship had to be maintained if the church were to operate and show their fruits to others that looked on. John had two points, and they were:

In this passage, we see a mother approach Jesus and request that the two sons she has, that they might be seated to the direct left and right of Jesus in the coming kingdom that he promises. Dealing with the issue of pride and humility, Jesus once again uses this challenge and request to remind that disciples of the true meaning of humility, and that the demonstration and obedience of this trait will not go unrewarded. John’s evening service continued the study in the book of Matthew, moving onto Chapter 20 and concentrating on verses 17 through to 19. In this passage, we see Jesus talking to His disciples, predicting his impending betrayal and subsequent death upon the cross. Taking this prediction into account, we looked at the events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection, making particular note of the fact that Jesus was in fact willing to go through with God’s plan for Salvation of the lost and see it through to completion, despite the obvious cost to Himself. John summarised the facts of Jesus’ death in 3 distinct points:

Death of Christ was Voluntary
Death of Christ was Vicarious (In the place of others)
Death of Christ was Victorious

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening twenty three verses. But moving on through the chapter on verses 18 to 20. Continuing on from verse 17, Paul proclaims that his needs, although maybe small, were not only met but the Philippians supplied even more, and that their gifts, supplied with the sending of Epaphroditus, were sufficient. The following verse, which mentions that the gifts were ‘a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God’ mention our devotion and dedication towards, not only our time, but material offerings to Gods work will be met with even more supply of needs in future days. John had four points, and they were:

Christmas Services 2012

Rising energy costs, tight budgets and early dusks may result in many sitting in semi-darkness until someone says “put on a light”, and the room brightens.

In the Bible Isaiah speaks of people walking in darkness but who will see a great light. The same passage tells of a child who would be born a son and called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince Of Peace.

This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus was born, He is the light of the World. He is the Saviour of those facing eternal darkness but who have trusted his spotless life and wrath-removing death, dispelling guilt, shame and despair and giving new life.

The lights in the park, shops and homes bring some joy to us all, but don’t sit in the dark this Christmas. Make sure the light of God’s love brightens your life.

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening twenty three verses. But moving on through the chapter on verses 14 to 17. These verses mention Paul, although content in any situation, reminds them that there was a time when Paul was in need, and despite the lack of support from other churches, Paul commends the church at Philippi for their continued support, no matter where or what he was doing. He continues on, and is eager to know in what way the support can be rewarded back to them, and in some way, benefitting them for their unwavering dedication. John had three points, and they were:

John’s evening service moved back into the study of the book of Matthew, reading verses 16 to 30 but moving onto chapter 20 where Jesus speaks to the disciples about the parables of the works in the vineyard. This parable covers the burning issues that disciples were thinking of, ‘time of service’ and a reward that fitted their length of dedication. But this vineyard parable was not just a lesson to the disciples, as John pointed out that Christians, although converted at different ages, should not grumble at the lack of support or the seemly delayed start from other workers within a fellowship or team, despite the hard work that is set in front of us. John had 3 points to the sermon, and they were:

The 4th of November’s services were led by the Rev. Graham John from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Swansea to cover annual holidays.

Graham’s morning service opened up our service with a reading from Romans 14. Covering the reading that Paul writes to the Roman church, this reading covered the attitude and handling of relationships between sister and brothers (fellow believers in the lord). But rather than dealing with quarrels, this reading covered ‘encouragement’. With people facing different challenges and situations, Paul sought to remind the church that encouragement was essential. Graham finished the service with a reminder of Barnabas, and how his constant strive towards encouraging influential people in the new testament shaped the church in its early years.

The 4th of November’s services were led by the Rev. Graham John from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Swansea to cover annual holidays.

Graham’s evening service opened up the service with a reading from Ephesians 4 and finishing into Ephesians 5. With Ephesians 4 having a sub heading of ‘Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ’, this particular part of scripture covers how the ‘truth’ is more than just an important part of our faith in God. Graham enlists the reason why God is a God of truth, and that because God is a God of truth, our relationship with him will always be grounded in truth, but WITH LOVE. Graham reminded us that truth without love can have negative effects towards our attitudes, particularly in how we deal with each other.

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening twenty three verses. But moving on through the chapter on verses 10 to 13. Paul covers his report on the Philippians giving of aid for his previous needs and seeks to explain that although there were bad times and good times and there were times of hunger and of supply, Paul reminds the Philippians that he was always in contentment, despite his current circumstances. John asked if we as believers were seeing contentment and that a lack of contentment could lead onto dangerous paths in our Christian walk. John had three points, and they were:

The 28th of October’s services were led by the Rev. Steve Foley of Gendros Congregational Church, Swansea.

Steve’s evening service moved back into the study of the book of Acts, reading from chapter 16, and verses 13 to 40. Covering the events where Paul meets Lydia, a gentile who through Paul’s preaching, becomes converted, and after a healing of a slave girl of a demon, is jailed and then involved with the conversion of a Philippian jailer in charge. Steve sought to bring to our attention that although these were two completely different people, they both had something in common. Steve challenges us to ask if ‘we have been converted’ and that conversion is vital in anyone’s life, despite their situation, circumstance or personal beliefs in the world, its origins or welfare.

The next scheduled Friday Fusion rally meeting has now been confirmed to be held at Noddfa Church, Pontardulais on the 21st of December.

Gorseinon Lantern Parade ‘12

As part of the annual celebration of Gorseinon’s Lantern Parade, Bethel Evangelical Church are pleased to give a contribution to the nights facilities.

This year, the Lantern parade will be held on the 4th of December from approx. 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and I’m sure that there are lots of preparations going on to make sure there are some eye catching lanterns again this year.

Bethel Evangelical Church members will be in attendance to offer some vital refreshments and will also give out literature during the night.

The Parade’s route starts at Lime Street Car park, situated just behind Bethel Evangelical Church.

During the night, the refreshments will be free and available to all.

There will be some familiar faces from the church attending on the night so feel free to pop along, introduce yourselves, consume a cuppa and enjoy the luminaire celebrations in time for Christmas.

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening twenty three verses. But moving on through the chapter on verses 8 and 9. Paul speaks of the things in our life which benefit to our salvation and ongoing work to be santified and have closer fellowship with God. He mentions that they should be treasured, and that they should take priority to stop other sources of information polluting our minds and in turn, affecting our fellowship with God. John’s evening service moved back into the study of the book of Matthew, reading verses 16 to 30 but moving onto verses 23 to 30 where Jesus addresses the disciples after the rich man went ahead sad. The disciples were eager to enquire after the seemly harsh news of the requirements to receive eternal life, Peter spoke for the rest of the twelve and enquired ‘What then will there be for us?’ Jesus uses this opportunity to explain that that wasnt just riches that had to be given up to obtain entrance into heaven, but any of those had to leave ‘left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much’. John had 7 points to the sermon, and they were:

John’s evening service moved back into the study of the book of Matthew, reading verses 16 to 30 where the a rich man approaches and enquires on what he must ‘do’ to gain eternal life. Jesus sees this as an opportunity to remind him of the requirements of the 10 commandments, but then targets what the man holds as his ‘god’ in his life, his money, and asks him to let go of his earthly riches to gain heavenly eternal riches by gaining access to heaven by following Jesus. John had 4 points to the sermon, and they were:

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening nine verses. Concentrating on verses four to seven, Paul seeks to remind the church at Philippi, of their true reason for joy and a reminder to Rejoice ‘in the Lord’. With these familiar three words used in the opening three verses, this second part of the fourth chapter sees a direct similarity with our source of comfort, determination, strength, encouragement. Everything we do and for, should be ‘in the Lord’ John had three points, and they were:

(Verse 5) Respect Everyone
(Verse 6) Refer Everything
(Verse 7) Rest Peacefully

The 7th of October’s services were led by our pastor, Rev. John Williams.

John’s morning service continued on with the series of Philippians, reading from chapter 4, and the opening seven verses. Concentrating on the opening three verses, Paul seeks to remind the church of their responsibilities as a church, the things that unite them and the things they should look towards to ‘keep them together’. But as the church faces troubles and difficulties and personally in their lives the importance of continuing their witness, this was a call to encourage, support and come along side each other in times of difficulties and to look to God for his strength at all times. John had three points, and they were:

(Verse 1) Stand Firm In The Lord
(Verse 2) Stay In Agreement
(Verse 3) Support Each Other

This was also a communion service.

John’s evening service moved into the first chapter of Isaiah, and the opening 20 verses. This chapter covers a vivid description of a rebellious city, that despite of being reared under Gods word, and how their actions and their demeanour by turning away from the only means of repentance and salvation will have eternal consequences of judgement and punishment. But these verses speak of and despite of our disobedience, we still have a path of escape provided by Gods grace. John had 3 points to the sermon, and they were:

The 30th of September’s services were led by our pastor, Rev. John Williams.

John’s morning service was our annual family harvest service. With a younger congregation, John brought the parable of the sower in Mark 4. With some grapes handed out in the service, the sermon focused on the word ‘grape’ and the numerous words that could be taken out of the word grape to give the gospel in a nutshell. Although there were 10 words, they were classified into 4 words for a problem, 4 words for a solution and 2 words for an application.

John’s evening service continued on with the harvest service, and covered the parable of the rich fool. The paarable, mentioning harvest and the situation that this man found himself in, covered how abundance and provision can have a negative influence on our view towards a God that does provide for our every need. The sermon covered the mans reaction to a good harvest, and how his plans to adapt his situation was comprised by God taking his life, and how his plans came to nothing. John had 3 points to the sermon, and they were:

Neglected The Indispensable
Overlooked The Inevitable

John’s morning service delved further into the book of Philippians, reading from chapter 3, reading the opening sixteen verses, but covering verses twelve to sixteen. With this section of the passage drawing to a close, Paul’s section of his letter to the Philippian church mentions why he thinks the way he does about Christ and how he came to know him as a personal Saviour. But not only of a personal faith, Paul describes why he moved on to proclaiming the gospel in such a bold way, risking his life and still keeping firm in the close days of his execution. John had 3 points to his sermon, and they were:

Friday Fusion Programme for ‘12/’13

Bethel Evangelical Church are pleased to be included in the decision of the churches within the Swansea cluster of the A.E.C.W group to re-form the formally popular Youth Rallies.

Paul and Rachel Watkins from Ebenezer are the reason behind this idea to be re-visited and with some quick telephone calls with other youth leaders about the idea, it was clear that all felt a need for the rallies to return.

I’ve been told that youth rallies were quite popular in the Swansea area and as a result many of the joint youth groups located around swansea were strengthened, numbers increased and all visitors and leaders agreed an enjoyable event was being held for many youth groups. This provided a much needed relaxation and recreational evening for youngsters that wanted to stay away from the usual crowds and the activities that result in evening periods.

Now this idea has been given another chance, it’s an ideal time for a different structure and approach of the meetings to be implemented. The youth could finally meet others from other youth groups who have similar stories, concerns or questions regarding todays life and choices to be made in the busy pace of being a youth in a church environment.

As one who asked, ‘What is a rally?’ I can now see that a rally is an opportunity to meet other young people within other groups and host an event that was a mix between a youth night and a sunday service. We are looking forward to a less formal and more open format that rallies can bring to the mix.

Each meeting, hosted by 1 of the 6 churches involved will be a random choice of applicable hymns, testimonies, games, readings and refeshments with some youth participation and enjoyment as one of the top priorities.

Please pray for these meetings. We hope that the future holds some enjoyable rallies and special friendships be made.

As churches we are looking forward to all future meetings, speakers and different locations for our youth to visit and engage with.
